RECORDING REQUIREMENTS

When faster media matters

Everyday recommendation

A Nikon-approved CFexpress Type B card; 45 MB/s maximum-transfer-rate guidance covers ordinary video playback and recording.

Demanding recommendation

A listed Type B card with at least 250 MB/s maximum transfer, preferably a Nikon-recommended VPG400 model for N-RAW or ProRes RAW HQ.

Nikon specifically recommends select Type B card families for N-RAW 12-bit and ProRes RAW HQ 12-bit recording.

CAPACITY & INGEST

Plan the complete workflow

Capacity

The camera supports CFexpress Type B and XQD. Match both card type and performance for redundant high-rate work.

Reader

Use a Type B/XQD-compatible reader and confirm that it supports the exact standard of the inserted card.

BEFORE YOU BUY

Three checks worth making

  • The Z9 does not use SD cards.
  • XQD and Type B share a slot but are different standards.
  • RAW video should use a specifically approved card model.
PRIMARY SOURCE

Verify the current requirement
