When faster media matters
Everyday recommendation
U3/V30 SDXC for 4K formats through 200 Mbps and general high-resolution still photography.
Demanding recommendation
V90 SDXC or CFexpress Type A VPG200; 8K at 400 Mbps can use V60 SDXC or VPG200 Type A.
XAVC S-I 4K at 600 Mbps requires V90 SDXC or CFexpress Type A VPG200, while XAVC HS 8K at 400 Mbps requires V60 or better.
Plan the complete workflow
Capacity
Sony supports SD, SDHC, SDXC, and CFexpress Type A. High-resolution RAW files make 128GB or larger practical for long sessions.
Reader
Use a UHS-II SD reader or a dedicated CFexpress Type A reader; Type B readers are not compatible.
Three checks worth making
- Both slots accept Type A, not Type B.
- 8K and All-Intra modes have different minimums.
- Use equal-performance cards for simultaneous recording.
