When faster media matters
Everyday recommendation
U3/V30 SDXC for listed modes through 200 Mbps; V60 or Type A is a better all-around fit for higher-rate 4K.
Demanding recommendation
V90 SDXC or CFexpress Type A VPG200 for 8K 520 Mbps and 4K All-Intra; Type A is required for selected slow motion.
XAVC HS 8K at 520 Mbps requires V90 or VPG200, and XAVC S-I 4K slow motion at 1200 Mbps requires Type A VPG200.

Capacity
Sony supports SD, SDHC, SDXC, and CFexpress Type A. 8K recording makes larger capacities practical.
Reader
Use a dedicated Type A reader for CFexpress or UHS-II reader for SD; Type B readers do not accept Type A.
Three checks worth making
- The α1 uses Type A, not the larger Type B format.
- 8K calls for V90 rather than V60 in Sony's table.
- Some slow-motion settings require CFexpress.
